Our Story: The MASH Movement

No words could explain what Kasha and her husband felt when they were given the news that their 4-year-old son, Jude, had Duchenne. Their lives since that day have consisted of numerous trips to Children’s Hospitals, many medical interventions including surgery, trial medications, tears, tough conversations and sleepless nights.

What brings hope?

The support and compassion from friends, family and the people whose faces they have never met. Hope is born in the caring of others and it’s this hope that fueled Kasha and her best friend Maggie to create The Mash Movement.

Their vision is a world where people collaborate, uplift and support each other. Where things don’t lift people but people lift people. Their mission is to influence change through advocacy and by cultivating experiences for people to “live in the movement”. The MASH stands for movement, awareness, service and health. These core values are the foundation and purpose of their social platform and fundraising events. Their aim is to build connections and community while helping others mentally, physically and emotionally along the way.

Advocating around the unmet needs of kids and their families who journey with Duchenne is critical. Currently, there is no cure. Together, they are creating change by leveraging their unique skills as yoga/barre/limbus/dance instructors, community leaders, nurse educator, health and wellness coach and school teacher. Their guiding quote is “start where you are, use what you have, do what you can” and so they have been hosting community events with anticipation to create a ripple nationwide this September.

Mashing together with leaders, movers and shakers to create change in the arena of rare disease and disrupt the status quo is what they are about. Because no parent should outlive their child!
